When we get nervous, we make excuses. We make excuses not to love ourselves or take care of ourselves. Sometimes life is just busy, we are too crazy at work, or always have to drive someone SOMEWHERE. Sometimes it's more important to spend time with our spouse. We also use excuses like "I wanna lose 15 lbs first" and "I just don't have the money right now". I wanted to write this to show you all that no matter the excuse, you CAN do it Let me show you that no matter the excuse, you are worthy of self love!
It's also important to remember that if you aren't taking care of yourself mentally, you're not going to be able to handle taking care of everyone else, which makes sense but is actually much harder said than done! Sometimes I am the WORST at making sure I am giving myself mental health breaks and that's why I think it's so important to share this with you all. I make the same excuses as above and sometimes I need someone to look me in the face and say, "SLOW DOWN, give yourself a break, breathe for a minute!".
At a boudoir shoot you are able to breathe, and love yourself for a few hours. Think of all the energy you'll save on a daily basis if you stop comparing yourself to others, or stop worrying about what other people will think of how you look. You get to see where your beauty really comes from and this lifts such a huge mental weight.
You need to take time for yourself, why not spend it having an amazing time and getting glammed up for once?
Did you know that the body type portrayed in advertising as the ideal is possessed naturally by only 5% of American females? ONLY FIVE PERCENT.I will say this over and over again (and sorry, not sorry if you've heard me say it before), but WHY do you have to be a certain size to LOVE yourself?
WHY do you have to fit a strangers messed up idea of a perfect body to LOVE your own body? WHY are you comparing your size to everyone else, when no 2 women are the same!
I think it's amazing to have goals and want to get healthy, but does that mean you have to hate your body to do those things? Absolutely NOTI You should love yourself every step of the way. Be proud of where you are so that you can be proud of where you're going. Have a boudoir shoot to celebrate where you are now, and then have one when you lose that 15 lbs to celebrate how far you've come!
WRONG.
This excuse is actually the EXACT reason you SHOULD do a boudoir shoot.
Often times we lose touch with our femininity or sexuality when life gets crazy because of health/kids/work. It happens a lot and it is absolutely normal and okay! A great way to find this side of ourselves again is to have a boudoir shoot done to out that spark back in us. I can show you that you have that inside you somewhere, and it might even ignite a spark between you and your spouse as well!
Another thing to remember is that you don't HAVE to wear super sexy clothing/ lingerie. If you feel like this doesn't show your personality, then there are so many other outfit ideas. If you need ideas, I will gladly talk to you about them or you can check out our blog on finding outfits here!
Yes, a boudoir shoot IS an investment. It is also an investment in yourself. You are investing in your well-being and confidence as well! We do offer payment plans! In order to book your shoot, there is a booking retainer, and after that we can set up your payment plan for the remaining so that it might be easier to book a shoot! If you have any questions about our payment plans, shoot us an email while setting up your shoot!

]]>Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I shoot boudoir photography. To me, it is so much more than photos. It's about self-acceptance, body positivity, and art. It is about getting glammed up and laughing your butt off. It's about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk in the studio and walk back out that door. It is about feeling beautiful, and that is something I believe every person deserves.
I started shooting boudoir photography because I saw the beauty in everyone that came in our door. I believed I could show any person what I see through my camera. Women tell me they feel they can't look "that beautiful" because they feel too tall, weigh too much, or have too many stretch marks. I loved showing them the photos from their shoot and showing that they CAN, in fact, feel beautiful, Seeing their reactions to their pictures changed me. From that moment on, knew I had found my passion.
It was now my job to be a mirror for my clients. Not the mirror that the world shows you that shames you, but the one who sees past all of the lumps, bruises, and imperfections. The one that shows you your sparkle.
The transformation that took place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience for us. When a woman arrives in my studio, most of the time she's nervous, sometimes even visibly nervous. Shaky hands and voices, sweaty hands and faces are things I see all the time. Once they sit in the chair to get their hair and makeup done, the transformation begins. The client slowly starts to shed those signs and feelings of nervousness and anxiousness.
Then the shoot would start. The first series is to get you all warmed up. When I show the client the back of the camera after the first series, I usually hear "OH MY GOD, that's me? NO WAY that's me!". As we go into the next series and then the next, the laughter and smiles start to come out. Then she starts to feel sexy. The sexy eyes come out. And you can tell that it's starting to click with them.
By the time we finish the session and go into the reveal, we're friends. We've just shared an experience that they will always remember. We've laughed and shared stories about our lives.
Once I show them their pictures on the TV screen, their jaws drop. They see themselves like they never have before. This is one of the amazing thing about boudoir photography. I get a chance to show them how I see them, how their spouse sees them and be their mirror. When they walk out that door, they’re smiling so big and they can't wait to tell all their friends about what they just did.
For me, boudoir photography is a celebration of your body and who you truly are. I take pride in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies, their battles and their victories they've been through. Let me show you your sparkle. Let me help remind you how to love and be proud yourself.

The thought of a boudoir session can be scary. When talking to women about their session, we get asked all kinds of questions. So we wanted to compile list of 12 most frequently asked questions to give you some insight on preparing for a boudoir session with us!
Our number 1 priority is making sure our clients are comfortable, especially with boudoir! It can be a life changing experience, but that also makes it nerve wracking! Sometimes, you are learning how to love your body and you aren't quite ready to share the images with the world, or sometimes these photos are specifically for your spouse and aren't for anyone else's eyes. These are all great reasons for not sharing your photos, and it all depends on your personal preferences! If there are photos that we would like to share, I will ask your permission first, and only share what you are comfortable with!
You definitely don't have to specifically wear lingerie, it depends on your personality! There are a BUNCH of outfit ideas other than lacy little things!
Hair and makeup is included in all of our boudoir shoots! I think it's really important for you to feel pampered, and having your hair and makeup done is a great way to do that! Our amazing team can help you complete your look, whether that's "I just woke up like this" or full on glam! You can bring any ideas you want for your makeup and we can try to use it for inspiration!
We offer endless payment options! There is a booking retainer to book your shoot, and the full balance is due one week before the date of the shoot! If you want more time to be able to pay off the shoot, you can schedule it a few months out, and pay it off in payments. Our payment plans are completely customizable to your needs. Just make sure to let us know what type of plan your want during your consultation.
There are quite a few places to buy outfits from and it depends on what you are getting and the style of your shoot! Here is a long list to choose from with different styles and sizing options! Victoria's Secret, Forever21, Adoreme.com, Torrid, eberjay.com, Aerie, foreveryourslingerie.ca. hipsandcurves.com, jasminestaceycollection.co, Shein.
If you are looking for something specific that you can't find, let me know and I might know where to get it. We have a lingerie buying guide, just ask! Also remember you don't HAVE to purchase any of your own outfits, as we offer an extensive client wardrobe that you get full access to.
We do edit your images for light, exposure, and color balance. We do NOT, however, edit anything "out" that is permanent! We think it can be damaging to have a boudoir session done, and then edit out parts of yourself that make you who you are! Part of the process of accepting yourself and seeing your beauty also means not photoshopping out parts of yourself you don't like.
If there are parts of yourself that are learning to love and aren't thrilled about, that is okay! We are skilled in posing and lighting to make you look your absolute best and bring out your shine!
All of our packages include some sort of print product, as we believe printing your images is the way they are meant to be seen. There are a variety of package options, and some do include the full digital gallery. These digital images come in a locked online gallery for you to download and share at your discretion.
We offer a variety of albums, wall arts, folio boxes, playing cards, and so much more!! Our products are sourced through a professional printing lab and are heirloom quality. We absolutely love the feel of picking up a physical print, it's so surreal to see yourself like that!
Nerves are all part of the experience! I always say that it would probably be weird if you WEREN'T nervous. The nervousness in the beginning of your shoot make your moment of "WOW" when seeing your photos for the first so much better!
This depends on your package and your vision. We always encourage clients to bring anything and everything they want. It's always better to bring more if you can't decide and we will help you decide at your shoot!
We are located in historic downtown of Joplin, MO. We love this town and the old rustic feel of the building we are in! There is so much history here, ask us about it!
You should always plan on getting to your shoot about 10 minutes early so we can talk about your vision and make a plan for hair and makeup!

The group of girls who greeted me were soo nice and professional. I was offered a drink almost immediately. And the HYPE Emiliegh and Jordyn gave me as I came out in each piece really gave me the confidence and comfortability to take each shot. It felt like being in a room with your besties!!
Going in I was sooooo worried I wouldn't look as good as all the women I have seen photographed but OMG!!! When I first saw my photos I was awestruck. I couldn't believe it was ME!! The amount of confidence I walked out of that studio with was through the roof. I did this 100% for me and I'm soooo glad I did. I cannot wait to return for another shoot in the near future and 10/10 recommend!!!

]]> ...when you're scrolling through Pinterest and then it just sucks you in. Before you know it you’ve spent two hours creating your dream kitchen in the second home you wish to buy from winning the lottery (guilty!).
Curating some inspiration from Pinterest isn’t a bad thing - just remember that what you see can’t always be replicated. We like to remind people that sure, we can try and re-create that photo but it probably won’t look the same, especially if it’s from another photographer. A lot of things on Pinterest are of professional models and have likely been photoshopped to all hell - and some of the women on there are human pretzels! I don't know about you, but I cannot bend and twist like I see a lot of women doing on there.
When snagging inspiration for your shoot from Pinterest, think about things like hair and makeup looks, outfits you like - instead of getting fixated on poses and props.
If you are interested in replicating a photo that WE have done here at the studio, we can certainly do that for you! Rather than Pinterest, hit up our Instagram feed take a screenshot of all the outfits and poses you like. Show it to us on the day of your shoot! If we created it, we know how to replicate it. Just keep in mind, all bodies are different so you can't expect the exact same result as a different client, but we can make it special for you.

We get asked a lot of questions regarding prepping for your boudoir shoot, and one we want to explain specifically is whether to tan or not to tan. For us, the answer is simple and it may actually surprise you.
The answer is absolutely NOT!
The reason is that we have really nice lighting in the studio, and a fake tan can tend to make your skin look very orange, and no one wants that! Even the best of the best spray tans or tanning lotions can cause some wacky skin tones in the camera. Unless you want to run the risk of looking like a cast member of Willy Wonka, we say skip the fake tans. And yes, this goes for tanning beds too!
While we don't recommend tanning, the choice is always yours. Just know that if you chose to tan or spray tan, you may run the risk of uneven tone, tan lines, burns, etc. We want to encourage women to embrace the skin they are in. You are beautiful just the way you are, and we want to help you embrace that!

The infamous body stocking is available in red (shown above) and black in a variety of styles but with the same concept. They are one size fits most and hug your every curve! Very stretchy and comfortable which is why they are a popular pick!
The body chain! Several different styles and colors including silver, gold, and rose gold. The textures are so fun to photograph and really add something extra to your shoot. We highly prefer these nude (gasp!) but they look stunning over a bodysuit too. No one is required to go nude, but most find they are so comfortable by the end of their session that they're up for the task!
This is one of our newer pieces here in the studio, and it has easily become one of our new favorites! We love this hot pink color. The straps and garter belt make this piece really unique. It also has underwire cups to help give the girls a boost!
The lace dress/baby doll, available (in a variety of sizes and styles) in burgundy, white, and black. It's one of our only dress styles, and it's the perfect mix of conservative and sexy. These pieces are so fun to add to any shoot!
Why do we love these pieces?
They are very flattering for most body types, for starters. We love a lot of our two pieces and some clients shy away from wanting to wear one but it ends up being one of their favorite pieces from their shoot. The majority of our two-piece sets have high-waisted bottoms which are very flattering on most body types! The lace dress is probably one of the most used pieces, ever. They come in a variety of colors and we have them in almost every single size. Body chains tend to scare some people but damn, do they look freaking HOT in photos. We usually tend to use the body chains during the just the sheets portion of the shoot or for some wall poses and they are a real crowd pleaser lemme tell you. The bodystocking is another crowd-pleaser for a lot of our clients, they often end up emailing us asking if we could order them one because they loved it so much! The bodystocking is a one-size-fits-most, it is very stretchy and it's amazingly comfortable; they also come in two different colors in a variety of different styles! We want clients to be comfortable in anything they wear... or don't! (;
We also offer a variety of specialty sets that are creative and so much fun to use in every shoot!

]]>If you've been following Towner Studios for any amount of time, you'll notice we talk a lot about Boudoir and we provide you with lots of information on how to prep for a shoot, but we don't often explain what exactly Boudoir is and what it means.Boudoir is the French word for a woman's bedroom, so it makes sense that a boudoir photo shoot is typically thought of as a sexy photoshoot. Clients typically wear sexy outfits - lingerie, stockings, undergarments, dresses, etc. It doesn’t always have to be like that though! Personally, when I think of a boudoir shoot, I think of it as more of a confidence booster. While some women believe wearing sexy clothing helps them build confidence, that’s not always the case. Many women choose to wear items of clothing that they wear every day (i.e.- a tank or tee, a fitted button-down shirt, a robe, a jersey, etc.) that will remind them of that photoshoot every time they wear it. We welcome your creative input and remember, you are part of your styling team too! While some women choose to do a shoot for a significant other (birthday gift, wedding present, anniversary, etc.), it typically ends up being a gift for themselves more so in the long run. Sessions do SO MUCH to lift you up and give you back a sense of self, and a refreshed feeling of confidence. Your partner will look lovingly at the images too, but the true feeling of transformation will only be felt by you, our client, and the subject of the images. Most of my clients have shared that booking a shoot initially brought on feelings of anxiety, but ended up being a huge confidence builder for them. We are here for you every step of the way and can often talk you through the different feelings and emotions you may feel before your session. Always reach out!The photographers at Towner Studios have a way with women, and with cameras. We see clients in a way that, unfortunately, they rarely see themselves. It's not magic - it is being willing to be vulnerable enough to put yourself out there to let someone show you a different side of yourself. Let us show you how beautiful you are.You never know where that newfound confidence will take you!
